Whether you have a full inground garden on an acre of land or raised beds made from a variety of materials or pots of growing goodness on your back porch or patio, gardening is very healthy in many ways. I always wanted a garden and I worked on it for a few years, but I never actually got to plant everything I wanted until I retired and had the time to devote to it.
This past spring I planted four 4 x 8 raised beds and two 4 x12 raised beds. I also planted two large truck tires and several assorted pots. Just being out in the early morning with the smell of damp earth and the excitement of seed choices was so good for my mental state of mind. As the weather got warmer, I harvested fresh green beans, dark green cucumbers, bright red tomatoes, and yellow crook necked squash.
As spring turned into summer, the weather continued to get hotter. Still, I was out every morning enjoying watering time, a reflective period where you can think and plan what you will do the rest of your day, your week . . . Another great time for your mind to drift and float peacefully.
If you have never tried gardening, believe me when I tell you, it is good for your body and your soul.
